Miles to Go utilizes duet form and interactive sound design to illustrate the physical, mental and emotional trauma experienced by the LGBTQ+ community as a direct result of ongoing and increasing violence, discrimination, and attacks on civil rights through endless legislation.  While both traditional and social media keep us informed, the endless onslaught has real ramifications.

DARLING

Choreography: Hélèn Simoneau
Music: Mary Kouyoumdjian
Dramaturgy: Melanie George
5 dancers
30 mins.

DARLING explores vulnerability and intimacy through the presence and absence of touch. More than romance—how does touch inform relationship? This work suggests and supports alternative views on gender and sexuality. It exposes the viewers’ own biases towards the perceived power and strength of the people onstage. Rooted in form, the movement is created in reverence to its lineage yet subverts traditional ways of being within dance partnering by proposing new ones.

New version for SBDT premiered January 2023 in Santa Barbara
Winter Season “Intimacy & Autonomy”
DARLING originally premiered by Helen Simoneau Danse in March 2020.

Partial Adaptation is a dance work created in the realm of (as well as with many of the tools of) absurdist theater, challenging autonomy and the fourth wall. For David Maurice, the piece is the beginning of a period of curiosity and the exploration of the roles of performers and audience, misuse of the fourth wall, and performer and audience autonomy.

ARENA, or 1 of 4 and 4 of 1

Choreography: Brandon Whited
Music: B*tch
4 dancers
8 mins.

Originally designed for performance in-the-round, ARENA, or 1 of 4 and 4 of 1 is a witty, playful and physically light-hearted romp that is anchored by formalist compositional structure.  A conversation between formal austerity and hyper-performativity, ARENA brings energy and light to those who are drawn to narrative and character, and form and symmetry to those with an eye for structure and organization in dance composition.
